QS published the Latin American edition of its prestigious University ranking where out of 416 evaluated Latin American Institutions, the UNCuyo takes the 94th place. At a national level, it was positioned among the 12 Argentine universities that were able to enter or maintain in the 2022 edition of such ranking. Regarding national universities, the UNCuyo reached the 11th place and the 6th one among public entities.
According to the indicators, out of the 8 categories to be analyzed, the UNCuyo improved in 6 of them. The academic reputation was the category with higher growth followed by the citation per faculty. The web impact and the international research net also had outstanding. Making reference to this publication, Jimena Estrella, Head of the Secretariat for Research, International Relations and Postgraduate Courses said that: “With this new edition of the QS survey, the UNCuyo’s progress in the rankings is strengthened with a sustained internationalization and work policy in search of research, which are two of the main categories measured by the ranking. This makes us stronger as a university, as an interesting institution to the world; the rankings and the reputation of each university gain special importance due to the pandemic.”
It is important to mention that over the last years, the UNCuyo has paid attention to the strengthening of its internationalization policies which has as a result this ranking publication, fruit of a constant work in search of showing the Argentine universities to the world.
QS Classifications
In order to measure the quality of higher education institutions, the international consulting company implements a methodology that combines objective elements (quantity of scientific publications, citation per faculty, quantity of doctors among professors, degree of internationalization) with subjective parameters (provided by an employer survey, which is the biggest one in the world.)
Within the survey, the UNCuyo has the highest category regarding size, as “Extra Large”; and regarding its age, it is considered as “mature” (previous step from being “historic”.) Its academic reputation keeps on being constant above the average (50%) and its international net reaches percentages close to 70% (68.8).
The consulting company
Quacquarelli Symonds is a global consulting company located in London which publishes the university ranking every year. In 2009, the company was divided in two and the Times Higher Education was born. Each year it publishes its own rankings with a methodology different from the one used by QS. These two companies publish the most widely accepted university rankings in the world.
